St John's College, Cardiff

Application

Application to St John's College, Cardiff is made by completing an Application Form which may follow a preliminary visit by parents of a prospective pupil. The prospective pupil is invited to join us for a normal school day. Evaluations of the pupil's academic potential and social awareness are made by staff in preparation for offering a place.

The final decision to allocate a place rests with the Head. Cognitive Attainment Tests will be administered after a place has been offered, or during the early days following admission, as a basis for assessing future progress.

We are keen to create a good match between pupil and parents, and the ethos of the school. We expect pupils and parents to support the school ethos in matters of work, disposition, full participation in the life of the school, and adherence to codes of conduct and dress.

Further explanation of 6th form admission criteria are discussed within "School Development Plan" question 1.

Some scholarships are available for sixth form study based on outstanding GCSE results, and there are also limited numbers of academic, music and chorister scholarships available at other age ranges, which may be means tested. All awards require a strong contribution to both extra-curricular sport and music and promotion of the school ethos.
